Taikou Risshiden II (Japanese)

Taikou Risshiden II is a historical strategy RPG set in Japan’s Sengoku period and built around the rise of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Rather than presenting warfare alone as the whole experience, the game combines career advancement, status, travel, political service, and military conflict into a broader “success story” structure. Koei’s own presentation frames it around Hideyoshi’s climb to power, while also emphasizing that the style of warfare changes depending on a character’s social standing, giving the game a stronger role-playing flavor than a straightforward map-conquest simulator. Compared with the first game, this sequel expands the playable map significantly and allows the player more freedom in how to move through the world and whom to serve. Contemporary database descriptions note that the map now stretches further across regions such as Shikoku, Kyushu, and Tohoku, and that the player can build ties with other clans and even choose to serve them.
