《惡靈古堡2》是1998年由卡普空開發及發行的恐怖生存遊戲。
1998年9月29日，新人警官里昂·史考特·肯尼迪（Leon Scott Kennedy）來到浣熊市警察局上任。但是，在進入市區以後卻遭遇了被T病毒感染的殭屍。 同一時刻，S.T.A.R.S.隊員克里斯·雷德菲爾（Chris Redfield）的妹妹克蕾兒·雷德菲爾（Claire Redfield），為了尋找失去音訊的哥哥也來到了浣熊市，並且也遭遇了喪屍，因此兩人陰錯陽差的相遇了。
相遇後，兩人計劃結伴去浣熊市警察局，但在路途中卻遭遇了車禍，兩人被爆炸的油罐車所引起的火災分開了，因此兩人隔着火海約定：各自找到去警察局的路，然後在那裏碰頭，於是，遊戲的雙劇情線由此展開。
