Silpheed is a vertical‑scrolling sci‑fi shooter developed by Game Arts and originally released in 1986 for the NEC PC‑8801; the DOS port came via Sierra On‑Line in 1989, compatible with IBM‑PCs running DOS. It is notable for its pseudo‑3D tilted perspective, where the ship moves over vector‑style backgrounds, and progressive weapon unlocks through points, homing missiles, spread lasers, shields, and power‑ups.
In the future, the terrorist group Xacalite hijacks Earth’s Grayzon central super‑computer and launches attacks across colony worlds using planetary‑buster missiles. The last hope lies with the SA‑08 starfighter Silpheed, piloted by the player to reach Earth and stop the attack.
