King’s Quest V: Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder is the 5th entry in Sierra On‑Line’s adventure game series, released on November 9, 1990 for MS‑DOS, later ported to Amiga, NES, Macintosh and others. It was the first King’s Quest to abandon the text parser in favour of a full point‑and‑click interface using Sierra’s SCI1 engine, and the first to use 256‑colour VGA graphics. Returning from a walk, King Graham finds Castle Daventry and his entire family magically kidnapped by the dark wizard Mordack. The only clue is the appearance of Cedric the Owl, who brings Graham to the good wizard Crispin. Equipped with limited supplies and spells, Graham must travel through deserts, snowy mountains, and enchanted forests to confront Mordack in his island lair and rescue his family.
