Dune (1992)

Play

Dune is a highly distinctive early-1990s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s universe, combining story-driven adventure design with resource management and light strategic warfare. Players take the role of Paul Atreides after arriving on Arrakis, meeting key characters, traveling across the desert, organizing Fremen tribes, expanding spice production, and gradually building the strength needed to challenge House Harkonnen. Rather than focusing on constant combat, the game places unusual emphasis on atmosphere, dialogue, pacing, and a sense of political and spiritual progression, which makes it feel very different from later, more purely military Dune games. Its blend of cinematic presentation, strategy systems, and faithful world-building is a big reason it is still remembered as one of the most unique licensed games of its era.
